Understanding lifespan development is crucial and allows us to grasp the phases of life. And also, understand children and their needs for security and comfort. Young children often relay on the comfort of a pacifier or a blanket to calm them down or make them feel safe. Parents are able to understand their children and their needs with the help of lifespan development studies and thus, parents feel like they are able to be better mothers and fathers. There are four recognized phases of human lifespan. One, childhood and adolescence; two, early adulthood; three, middle adulthood; four, late adulthood. Natural progressions are expected to occur as a person ages. The study of lifespan development is important because it explains how and why people develop and what reasonable expectations should apply during this process (Berger, 2008). Lifespan Development at Work The study of lifespan development is significant factor in understanding the subject and provides people with many answers and has the ability of preventing people from repeating past mistakes. Over the years humans have monitored history and have used their research to prevent making similar decisions of the past that did not work out like they were intended to (Carson, 2000). For example, sunscreen is used to protect our skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays and ultimately, decrease the possibilities of skin cancer. Before the importance and knowledge of sunscreen was available people did not know the true dangers the sun presented and mostly did not protect their skin accordingly. As a result, many people who spent a lot of time outdoors in the 1970’s and 1980’s had a significantly increased rate of skin cancer. Many of these skin cancer victims did not know the dangers the sun presented and how wearing sunscreen could have decreased their risk. If this knowledge was readily available at the time it is almost guaranteed that a large percentage of these people who have worn sunscreen and possibly eliminate their chances of skin cancer all together. Now the threats of sun damage are widely known and discussed and there are a variety of sunscreen-type products on the market for consumers (Berk, 2012). People have learned from past mistakes that the sun does present dangers and can be harmful to our skin so it is important to wear sunscreen and take other appropriate precautions. Lifespan development is purposed partially on extending the life of man and as a part of that jaunting task, survival is required. Humans learn from mistakes that have been made in the past, as a part of their challenge to survive. Skin cancer kills some of its victims and therefore, the knowledge that skin cancer presents is crucial and allows people to take the appropriate measures to cut down their risks. This is one simple example of how people learn from history and use inventive ways to improve the future with the information acquired (Carson, 2000). Theories of Lifespan Development: Psychodynamic Behavioral, cognitive, contextual, evolutionary, humanistic, and psychodynamic are the six widely accepted theories pertaining to lifespan development psychology (Berger, 2008). Both Eric Erickson and Sigmund Freud did expansive studies on the psychodynamic theory. In Freud’s studies he focused on the inner being of a person and the unconscious forces that create personality and behavioral traits. His beliefs are that events, like memories and feelings that occur inside of us help motivate our personality and the way in which we behave. Memories are usually positive or negative and conflicts arise from negative memories and thus, creating a feeling that something should not be repeated in order to avoid a negative outcome. The psychodynamic theory focuses on three aspects of human personality: ego, superego, and id. Along with personality, this theory focuses on psychosexual development as well (Carson, 2000). Theories of Lifespan Development: Evolutionary The Evolutionary Theory of lifespan development is another interesting take on the study originally theorized by Charles Darwin and Konrad Lorenz. This theory focuses on evolution and how it specifically relates to human lifespan development. Over the years, a process of natural selection takes place and as a result humans adapt to their environments. Traits are acquired and sometimes altered by species in order to thrive. Darwin and Lorenz focus on how heredity influences development and how behavior is a result of our genetic inheritance. Studies that are connected with this theory show a relationship between family members and certain diseases and illnesses (Berk, 2012). For example, mental illness often runs in family histories and can be tracked through heredity. Heredity and the Environment Nurture versus nature is a discussion commonly associated with lifespan development. Environmental factors play a role in how a person develops, but heredity is passed down through a process of inheritance. A child may be born into a poverty-stricken home and raised to live in fear. A socioeconomic situation like this can lead to a life of crime in order to make ends meet. Who is to blame for deaths of Romeo and Juliet Essay William Shakespeare was born on 23rd April in Stratford-upon-Avon. Shakespeare was Englands greatest poet and play writer of all time. He started play writing in 1595 and produced 38 plays in his lifetime. These include titles such as Twelfth Night, Hamlet, Macbeth and A Midsummer Nights Dream. However this essay is focusing on the play of Romeo and Juliet.Romeo and Juliet was one of the earliest plays produced by Shakespeare. It is the tale of a love affair between two children in rival families the Capulets and the Montagues. The two children Romeo (a Montague) and Juliet (a Capulet) met at a Capulet ball and instantly fell in love. They secretly marry in Friar Laurences church but their relationship is cut short when Romeo kills Tybalt in revenge for him killing his friend Mercutio. For this Romeo is banished from the streets of Verona to Manuta by Prince Escalus.Meanwhile the Capulets have arranged for Juliet to marry Paris. However Juliet refuses to marry him and in a desperate attempt to prevent it going ahead she drinks a potion, which makes her dead for 24 hours. When Romeo hears of her death he rushes back to Verona to see her. When he sees her in the vault he kills himself in a bid to join her in heaven. Then when Juliet wakes up and sees Romeo dead she stabs herself with a knife so they can be joined together again.There are many reasons for the deaths of these two individuals. It could be the consciences of the people surrounding them both, it could be the feud between their families, or maybe some crucial events that inspired the conclusion of Romeo and Juliet like the Capulets ball, the quarrel between Romeo and Tybalt.I am laying the blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet on nearly all the characters in the play, excluding the citizens of Verona, the masquers, pagers, servants and watchmen, as these were just playing their role in life.Firstly, I blame the Prince. He should have acted earlier to stop the feud between the two families. Escalus h ad that authority and it was his duty to use it to Veronas advantage. It was unjust of him to send Romeo away from Verona as a punishment for killing Tybalt when the fight was Tylbalts fault.Mercutio, one of Romeos friends and a supporter of the Montague household, is to blame for the deaths of Romaeo and Juliets death. If Mercutio had not argued with Tybalt in town whilst out with Romeo and Benvolio, Romeo would never have got into his fight with Tybalt and therefore would not have been banished.It could be that Lord Montague and Lord Capulet were partly responsible for keeping the feud going. Their attitude towards the fighting was very negative. They could have stopped the quarrelling but both acted quite childish. They were both very selfish as they put their pride and feud between the Montagues before the people of Verona and their own family. This is one of the reasons why Juliet was so vulnerable. They could have ended the feud and Romeo and Juliet would have been free to get married.The behaviour of Lord Capulet and Lord Montague was very immature and did not send out a good example to the other family members. For example when they arrive at the fight at the start of the play they want to join in but it obvious that they are too old. They are both very foolish. (MONTAGUE)However at the end the two families realise what they bitter rivalry has caused and feel guilty about it. If only had done something early then it could of helped prevent the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.Juliets nurse is also to be blamed for the deaths of the lovers because she encouraged Juliet with her romantic ideas. The nurse acted as a go between, carrying messages, she also helped arrange their marriage. The nurse kept their love, affair a secret and did not tell Juliets parents, but helped Juliet disobey their wishes. The nurse also arranged their wedding night. The Nurse knew that Juliet was too young to get married but offered no advice and was eager for them to get married. While Tybalt was still alive the Nurse would say nice things of Romeo of how hes a man of wax, but after Romeo killed Tybalt the Nurse turns against Romeo:Will you speak well of him that killed your cousin, Shame come to Romeo.The Nurse starts to become two-faced because she had told Juliet to marry Romeo and then Paris. The nurse was only thinking of herself and not Juliets future. The nurse got Juliet into this mess and got her confused and heart broken. The nurse played a big part in helping the deaths of the two young lovers and she knew of the feud between their families and the wishes of the Capulets. The nurse chose to be a mother of a child that was not her own. She mad e bad decisions that caused these deaths.Lord ; Lady Capulet chose to leave their daughter in the care of a nurse who was very selfish and manipulative. The nurse did everything she could to make herself happy, she told Juliet that Romeo was the right man for her and did everything she could to help Juliet see Romeo. Lord ; Lady Capulet didnt have any idea how their daughter was feeling or what she was doing. They didnt play their role as parents but let someone else try and do their job for them. If they hadnt have left Juliet in the care of the nurse, Lord Lady Capulet would have known what Juliet was doing.Capulet by himself was also to blame for his daughters death. He was a wise and strict man, who tried to do the best for his daughter. He wanted to get Juliet married as soon as possible, it seemed as if he wanted her out of the way. Especially when Tybalt died as he felt that this would help her recover from his death and so that she would not put of marriage any longer, yet he did not know that she was more upset about Romeos banishment. Capulet put a lot of pressure on Juliet and did not give her much of a choice; then again we must remember that Capulet was a typical father of Elizabethan time. He gave her no other choice but to go with the Friars plan.I also think Lord ; Lady Montague are partly to blame for Romeo ; Juliets deaths because they were not understanding Romeo, they never spoke to him but sent Benvolio to speak to him. They never knew what he was thinking or doing. Lord Lady Montague said that Romeo was to himself so secret and so close. They didnt understand that Romeo was amused at the idea of being in love. Romeo kept secrets from his parents, so they never knew how he was feeling.I blame Romeo and Juliet themselves. Romeo because he acted too hastily throughout the play. He should not have asked Juliet to marry him so suddenly, and he should have thought more carefully before rushing back to Verona after hearing of Juliets death. T his is because he was banished, but since Juliet was dead, I cannot really blame him too much here. Romeo also acted violently and without thinking when he murdered Tybalt in a blind rage, and then later Paris, out of annoyance and frustration. Juliet should not have disobeyed and deceived her parents. Like Romeo, she was far too hasty in rushing to marry Romeo, when she had an idea that she may be engaged to marry Paris, via her father, at the time of the masked ball. Until meeting Romeo, she had been very happy with her parents choice. If she had a little more courage, she could have told Paris she was not interested and left home to live away from Verona with Romeo.I think that Friar Laurence is also to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. He gets the couple married, offers Juliet the potion, fails to send the letter to Romeo in time and runs away selfishly from the vault.When Romeo first tells him about getting married he hesitated because their love had just begun and it c ould end as easily as it started.These violent delights have violent ends and in their triumph die, like fire and power which, as they kiss, consume (Act 2 V1, 9-11)And even though he knows Romeo well and knows how immature he is towards love:Is Rosaline, that thou dist love so dear, so soon forsaken? Young mens love then lies not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes (Act 2, 111, 62-64Being a religious man the Friar considered the benefits of marrying Romeo and Juliet, which was that maybe through their love, the feud between the two families would end.In one respect Ill thy assistant be, for this alliance may so happy prove to turn your households rancour to pure love (Act 2 111, 86-88) Marx obfuscatedHowever he should have thought about it carefully because then again their love may not have helped end the feud, but he agreed to marry the two couples.By this marriage he made Romeo a relative to the Capulets and by this: Mercutio would not have been slain by Tybalt and Romeo wo uld not have killed Tybalt in revenge.Later in the play the Friar then offers Juliet the potion, which hypnotizes her for twenty-four hours, so she can avoid getting married to Paris, who is deeply upset when he sees her dead at the tomb and weeps.The obsequies that I for thee will keep nightly shall be to strew thy grave and weep (Act 5, 111, 16-17) He lets everyone think that Juliet is dead. Even though this saved Juliet from marrying Paris it also caused Romeos death, as Friar took the duty to inform Romeo of Juliets situation but failed to do so. His whole plan depended on the letter to Romeo. He did not think about making another plan in case the original one failed. If it had been different Romeo would not have though that Juliet was dead and his state of mind and actions would have been different.The Friars selfishness is also to blame for when Juliet woke up and found Romeo dead she wanted to stay and he told her to escape with him before anyone came.Come Ill dispose of thee Among a sisterhood of holy nuns Stay not to question, for watch is coming Come, go, good Juliet. I dare no longer stay (Act 5 111, 156-159)The Friar leaves selfishly in fear that he will be caught. If he had stayed with Juliet then maybe he could have stopped her from killing her self.So the hasty marriage, wrongful use of the potion, failure to send the letter and his selfishness stated that the Friar played the biggest role in leading Rome and Juliet to their deaths.Now looking from another view we could say that nobody but fate was to blame for their deaths.For a start what is fate. Fate is the power that is supposed to settle a head of time how things happen. Romeo and Juliet could be an example of fate. It has become the control of this play.For a start Romeo and Juliet believed in fate. They believed that the stars did things, and were the reason behind unexplained actions.Some consequence yet hanging in the stars (107), by some vile forfeit of untimely death. But he hath the steerage over my course, direct my sail (Act 1, 1V, 111-114)In this quote Romeo is telling his friends that he had a dream, which tells him that he will die young because of something in the stars and that he has no control over his life, that someone else is directing him. He was like a puppet asking his puppeteer to guide him.Never the less, fate still sets up the scene for the two lovers. Romeo firstly being in love with Rosalind, then the Capulets servant asking him to read the list of invited people for the Capulets ball. The servant asked him to come and he agrees as he sees Rosalinds name on the list. This sets everything up for Romeo and Juliet to meet. So if fate did not put all that together than who did?Shakespeare most would say. What was the chance of two enemies falling in love, probably one out of a million? So we could say that fate set up their love, or that their love was predestined as well as their suicides, which they both saw in little dreams and visions. Juli et for example saysMethinks I see thee, now thou art so low, as one dead in the bottom of a tomb (Act 3, V1, 55)Which is where Romeo eventually ends up, besides her. How could Juliet have seen the future if it was already planed put for her? Dreams and visions often hint to what is going to happen and in this case both Romeo and Juliet saw that Romeo would die.Fate often finds to lovers, Romeo and Juliet were lucky enough to find each other so soon, even though their love landed them to their deaths. In this case fate was not only bringing these two lovers together but also ending them as well as ending the feud between the two families.That power beyond their control has spoiled their plans, this power must be fate.I think that God works in mysterious ways and sometimes the bad things in life are actually good. We could say this about fate and the role that it plays in Romeo and Juliet. It turned hate to love although it also turned love to death. So we can say that fate played the most important role in this play. I believe that it did lead Romeo and Juliet to their deaths, although the ultimate choice was theirs. Fate was leading them to it. I do believe that we do have some say on how we turn out. Fate brought Romeo and Juliet together but it was also their love, their action may have been predestined, but they were their own actions. They did not realise the consequences of their love.In my final evaluation, I will aim to look at this play at several different angles and my conclusion will be very forceful into discovering who is responsible. Not one individual is totally responsible. But the blame should, and will be shared between allIndividuals. The play from the start was always destined to be tragic. It is the way the play is remembered. Romeo and Juliet- The classic love story. I find several events very ironic and there is hint that these events could be classified as mis-fortunate. One in particular was when Romeo did not receive the telegram. Thi s caused a large confusion and it is inevitable what was going to happen after this event.Not one individual can be held responsible for this tragedy but all the characters come under the spotlight more than others do, the nurse did not advise Juliet to the best of her ability. When the relationship had started the nurse told Romeo that Juliet felt the same. Yet, when Romeo was banished and the couples were married, the nurse dramatically changed her view. She said that Juliet should marry Paris. Juliet had now been let down by someone who was very close to her, Juliet was now very confused. Individuals in the play have motives for their actions, Friar Lawrence used love to bring people together.Tybalt was protecting his family name and pride. Mercutio was also playing a protective role towards Romeo. The nurse felt that she was helping Juliet but all she did was give Juliet hassle that she could not cope with. In addition, she wrongly advised Juliet. If the lovers had been honest a bout their relationship perhaps, the outcome may have been different. If the end it can be said, individuals in the end pushed the couples over the edge. However, in the end the blame boils down to the two lovers. The lack of maturity shown by the lovers led to their deaths, the couple were left and isolated from both parents so they could not turn to any body. In the end both families were left, to see the damage their feud had caused. One question that will be left unanswered is, did any of the individuals realize the significance of their actions?

As packets of data travel the internet you external firewall adds a layer of protection by filtering every packet that arrives at either side of the firewall. Intrusion Detection System IDS - The IDS is in a location you want it to be in a place that will identify possible points of entry into the network. The IDS must be configured properly but it can add a layer of integrity to the infrastructure and trace user activity, notify you when the system is under attack. It can detect errors in the system configuration. The IDS will also help to mitigate some DoS attacks from occurring. Exchange Server - This is placed properly behind the firewall and with the DMZ, now we must configure it so that we disable the HTTP and only allow HTTPS this will narrow an attack. We would want to install whitelisting software to add protection from the Remote Administration Tool (RAT) gaining entry. File Transfer Protocol FTP - uses TCP as a connection oriented data transmission but it is in clear-text. Abstract This paper will discuss how the authors of three particular articles, Megan Comfort, Mona Lynch, Kelly Hannah-Moffat and Paula Maurutto, interpret the rehabilitative processes for criminal offenders. The authors’ arguments of who is responsible for this rehabilitation vary widely. Rehabilitation is defined as restoring someone to a useful role in society (Rehabilitation, 2009). Comfort says that the men who are incarcerated in California turn to prison as a way to achieve healthier relationships and to improve themselves. Since rehabilitation programs are scarce, the individual becomes responsible for their own improvement. We can see that people report making the best of their situation even when there are not sufficient programs available to help them get clean. However we can see that the lack of these programs can be a risk towards reoffending. Even though there are some programs available, the offenders claim that these programs lack anomity and would rather spend their time behind bars because they are able to establish goals that they want to achieve once they are released. Thus, the responsibility of r ehabilitation is shifted on to the individual, and we can question if the role that parole agents play is of any significance at all. Comfort also finds that these men engage in a period of acting as if their experience in the penitentiary is effective in preparing them for re-entry into society. However, after these men are in fact released from the penitentiary, they realize the negative repercussion of not effectively being rehabilitated. In contrast, rehabilitative treatment in the forms of therapy, job training, and education can show much more favourable outcomes for an individual being reintegrated back into society. Rehabilitation as Rhetoric: The Ideal of Reformation in Contemporary Parole Discourse and Practices By Mona Lynch Mona Lynch talks about the shifts in the purpose of parole throughout history. She marks three strong changes in parole history in which each era has a different view on who is responsible to improve the parolee. The three eras of parole are marked thus; the disciplinary era, clinical era, and the managerial era. Lynch discusses the first two as being a combined responsibility of the state, community, and the individual to help them become normalized into society. In the third era, she states that the responsibility is shifted on to the parole agent and the offender to help him improve. We can see that there is a shared responsibility. Lynch goes on to say that there is little investment put into rehabilitative measures and programs to assist the parolee to improve. In conclusion we can see that the issues that the agent would help the individual with are actually being addressed as the poor choices of the individual, and while there are programs in place to help fix the poor choices the individual has made, they are actually used as coercive tools against the parolee. We can see that the rhetoric of rehabilitation is expressed as placing unrealistic demands on the individual to normalize themselves, and if he does not succeed it is considered their own fault, and the agents are able to use coercion when they believe it is necessary to protect society from deviant behavior. Shifting and Targeted Forms of Penal Governance: Bail, Punishment and Shifting and Specialized Courts By Kelly Hannah-Moffatt and Paula Maurutto Shifting and Targeted Forms of Penal Governance by Hanna Moffat and Paula Maurutto discusses rehabilitation in Canadian specialized courts. They state that rehabilitation today is much different from the past. Throughout the history of the criminal justice system, rehabilitation took on the purpose of providing therapy to the individual offender, but today it operates on two levels. The first is to provide therapy to the offender through job training and counselling and the second purpose of rehabilitation is to exercise control. The latter purpose can be seen as being intrusive. The criminal justice system is combining rehabilitation and punishment as a punitive measure. They argue that rehabilitation does not serve a single purpose but it is binary. In conclusion we can see that rehabilitation is very messy because it is both a combination of punishment and therapy and also takes the role of being coercive and controlling. The Responsibility of Rehabilitation Rehabilitation has shifted in form throughout history and has gone from being therapeutic to taking on a controlling and coercive appearance. Many people argue about which form of rehabilitation is most effective but the purpose of rehabilitation is to figure out why an individual committed a crime, and focus on those aspects to foster a permanent change. It is part of a larger modernity. There are many articles about who should take on the responsibility of rehabilitation and through this analysis I will outline how the authors Megan Comfort, Mona Lynch, Hanna Moffatt and Paula Maurutto write about the subject. Then I will conclude with which author presents the most comprehensive argument for who should take on rehabilitation responsibility. To begin with, Mona Comfort says that jail fails to rehabilitate an individual back into society because the prison system does not have programs in place which could assist the offenders in becoming normalized into society. She says that the prison only serves the purpose of being a â€Å"primary means of service access† where these men who are denied social welfare are now able to get a hold of it within the penitentiary (Comfort, 2008). These men act as if the prison will help them re-enter society because they are able to establish goals that they want to achieve. However, Comforts studies show that tens of thousands of released prisoners who relapse and reoffend are a blunt testimony that the California Department of Correction or Rehabilitation is wearing very few rehabilitative clothes† (Comfort, 2008). Even though men believe that the prison will make them â€Å"clean†, studies prove that they more often than not will reoffend because the programs to help them become â€Å"normalized† in jail were non-existent or inadequate. In contrast, Mona Lynch writes that rehabilitation is more present in penitentiaries than Comfort would argue. She states that although rehabilitation has changed into being more â€Å"managerial†, it still holds onto some past ideologies so we can look at it as merely re-invented. It is holding the old rhetoric but doing it in different or modern ways. In the past it took on a therapeutic form but today it is binary in being both therapeutic and coercive. In her opinion, rehabilitation is a combined responsibility of both the offender and the parole agent, but there is more emphasis on the offender â€Å"wanting† to improve. She also writes that rehabilitation appears important for the agency to portray to a number of audiences, including the public, the clients, and the agents responsible for putting goals into actions. The commitment however does not extend past this rhetoric (Lynch, 2000). Finally, Hannah-Moffat and Maurutto see rehabilitation in a different form than Comfort, but somewhat similar to Lynch. They see rehabilitation motivated by therapeutic and preventative goal and they rely on relationships with community groups to create a range of interactions with the court and the offender (Hannah-Moffat Maurutto, 2012). The way that rehabilitation has shifted from being just therapeutic, then to coercive, and then into a meshing of the two, is a new feature of the Canadian criminal justice system. They write that rehabilitation is a shared responsibility, and it extends beyond the prison. It takes the combined efforts of professionals and the community to work together to re-integrate an individual back into society. One can also argue that this type of rehabilitation would be fairer in terms of seeking the best program to treat the specific needs of the offender, and will be more successful in reintegrating them into society as a result. In Maurutto and Moffattà ¢â‚¬â„¢s argument, rehabilitation is able to be a life-changing experience rather than just an effort to change a person’s deviant personality. In conclusion we see there is a variation in the arguments presented by Comfort, Lynch and Maurutto and Moffat. However, in my opinion I believe that the latter two authors who argue that the state and community should work together to make the individual more responsible is more comprehensible than the other two arguments. Although Comfort states that the responsibility falls on the offender, studies show that they will risk reoffending if left to their own devices. This does not then seem realistic to make the individual responsible for their own rehabilitation, because the purpose of punishment is to deter an action that deviates from the societal norms. She also argues that the prison does not offer programs and even when they do that they’re counting on you not to use them (Comfort, 2008). Instead the state decides to spend $35, 587 a year to imprison an offender, forgetting that they could use those funds to re-integrate the offender. The individual is made responsible a nd they leave the prison with â€Å"no additional skills or information to help him enter society (Comfort, 2008). It is therefore not effective to not make the state responsible because the individual cannot find a job on his own and he is left seeking the criminal justice system to help him get clean, but this only provides him with temporary access to social welfare. On the other hand, Lynch’s argument that there is a shared responsibility between the parole agent and the offender is more comprehensive and potentially effective than Comforts because there is an external assistance system set up to rehabilitate the offender. There is also the implementation of punitive punishments. The reason why Comfort’s argument in making the individual responsible does not bode well is because you cannot expect someone who is deviant to be responsible. However with parole agents taking on part responsibility, it seems more likely that rehabilitation will have a greater success rate. Lynch argues that in the past, parole served the purpose of being therapeutic and today it takes on both therapeutic and coercive roles. This is more of an effective argument because the purpose of jail is to punish as well as to help them get back into society. The new era of parole is more effective because the state is protecting society from risky offenders while helping them get back to being normal and productive in society. In conclusion, this model is not completely casting off a segment of the population, rather crime punishment and disciplinary action are working together to make combined efforts to help make the offender responsible (Lynch, 2000). However, the argument made my Hannah-Moffat and Maurutto offers an even more comprehensive argument for who should hold the responsibility to rehabilitate the individual. They argue that rehabilitation happens the moment you are charged, and since there are specialized community groups working with the offender, they are able to address the underlying holistic needs of the offender in order to ensure successful completion of a treatment program (Hannah-Moffat Maurutto, 2012). Conventional courts are criticized for failing to address effectively chronic social programs which is why if the specialized courts take the responsibly they are better equipped to target specific needs (Hannah-Moffat Maurutto, 2012). The whole process of how best to rehabilitate specific cases and individuals would begin the moment the charged person entered the courtroom and would not wait until they entered jail itself. Each method starts rehabilitation at a different time in the individuals interaction wi th the criminal justice system, but in the third one it starts from the beginning; the moment the individual is charged. This is almost more of a preventative style of rehabilitation and a hybrid. In conclusion, using Hannah-Moffat Maurutto’s ideas on the responsibility to rehabilitate an offender being shared between specialized courts, community programs and the individual is better because it takes on preventative therapeutic practices but they have not eroded the traditional form of punishment (Hannah-Moffat Maurutto, 2012). The opportunity to participate in these programs is beneficial for the parolee because â€Å"their charges may be withdrawn, or they may get an absolute or conditional discharge† (Hannah-Moffat Maurutto, 2012). This seems more effective because the courts are working together to normalize the offender and this allows them to not have the stigma of being a criminal. The offender can find a job without the trouble of their record following them. Therefore having specialized courts and therapeutic programs, and the individual work together to help rehabilitation is more comprehensive compared to having an individual take on full responsib ility or having the state take on sole responsibility. Working individually, neither party can be trusted to make the right or rational choices for the prisoners, thus a binary response is needed for joint liability and oversight. Seven influential moral thinkers hammered just war tradition which has been distilled into seven principles where five of the principles judge whether a decision to go to war is actually justifiable while the other two are a guide to just conduct in waging a war. The principles of a just war include: legitimate authority, just cause, just intent, last resort, reasonable chance of success, principle of discrimination and the principle of proportionality. The Spanish and Portuguese were not justified to go to war with the Guarani but the Guarani were justified to war with the Portuguese and the Spanish. Subjecting the Portuguese and the Spanish to the seven principles of a just war they were not justified to go to war. The first principle which requires that before a war is started, it must be declared by a legally recognized authority which in most cases is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces while in United states it the Congress was not met by the Spanish and Portuguese soldiers. The soldier according to Alves were sent to relocate the Guarani but when they resisted they resorted to military action where many natives were killed and other were taken as slaves without the order of the legal authorities of the two nations (4). Before going to war with the Guarani the just war principles demand that Spanish and Portuguese leaders and soldiers were to seek an order from the commander-in-chief of the armed forces of their respective countries before waging a war with the natives which they did not do. The second principle of a just war that requires that a war should not be started on the basis of expanding a territory or national pride but only for a just cause like resistance to aggression by means of threat of attack or attack was not met either by the Portuguese and the Spanish in fighting the Guarani people. They instead invaded the people with an aim to relocate them to take them as slaves but when the Guarani resisted they started war with them thereby breaching the just cause (Alves 4). Another principle require that before starting a war the aims of the war should be just and limited which should be restoring justice and peace and not vengeance. The Spanish and the Portuguese breached this principle as well since their intention was not to restore peace or justice among the Guarani people. They waged the war out of their own selfish gain because the natives were living peacefully before. Their interest was the land of the Guarani and to enslave them as well. It was not the last resort for the Portuguese and the Spanish to start war with the Guarani people. The principles requires that all other means should be used to resolve dispute between contending parties and that the means must have been tried and found to fail before going to war. In the situation of the Portuguese, Spanish and the Guarani people there was no dispute in the first place. It is the Spanish and Portuguese that were determined to take the land that belonged to the natives and to take them as slaves and even after the natives resisted their effort they never used any other means to resolve the dispute but war. There should be reasonable chance of success before starting a war which the Portuguese and the Spanish did not take to consideration. The principle requires that the situation should be accessed to ascertain if there is a possibility of success before initiating or continuing a war. They never considered this fact and that is the reason why the war continued for several decades and they were eventually defeated (Elves 6). Another principle of a just war tradition that the Portuguese and Spanish violated is the principle of civilian immunity or honor of noncombatant where the noncombatants are not targeted to avoid civilian deaths. It also requires that prisoners captured should be treated humanely and that military forces desist from rapes, massacres, looting and other atrocities. This was not the case in the wars of the Guarani where all sorts of atrocities were committed against the people since children, women and men alike were taken captives and were not treated humanely. The principle of proportionality which requires that the harm to be caused by a war must not exceed the good the war can accomplish. Before the Europeans invaded the natives they were living peacefully in their land but after they attacked them they were left with sorrows since some died, others were enslaved, property destroyed and families disunited forever. It therefore goes without saying that the Spanish and the Portuguese caused several harm and zero good to the Guarani which is against this principle of just war. The Portuguese and the Spanish were not justified to initiate and continue the war with the Guarani after being subjected to the seven principles of a just war tradition.
